REFLECTIVE EXERCISE: BUILDING YOUR OWN MODALITY FIT MATRIX

You are required to design your own visual Modality Fit Matrix using Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, or a similar design platform.

This matrix should visually represent how you decide which counselling approach fits which client presentation.

Your visual must include:

  1. The Four Modalities

    • CBT

    • Person-Centred

    • Narrative

    • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

  2. At Least 4 Decision Domains, such as:

    • Presenting problem focus

    • Emotional regulation / stability

    • Client readiness and motivation

    • Structure vs exploration preference

    • Time constraints / context

    • Cultural or identity considerations

  3. Clear Visual Logic
    Examples:

    • Columns = modalities, rows = client factors

    • Quadrants showing “best fit”

    • Icons, colour coding, or scoring indicators

    • Flow arrows showing decision pathways

  4. Brief Explanatory Labels

    • One-line descriptors (e.g. “High structure”, “Meaning-focused”, “Future-oriented”)
